Painted to represent the multifaceted nature of God, the prism is an example of our witness on the earth. The pure and whole white light hits the prism which then defracts it into colors both seen and unseen. In the same way, as God enters and communes with us, we express Him in many different ways, through given gifts and abilites and expression. Only with all of those expressions both seen and unseen, each other, do we truly represent our very diverse and multifaceted creator.

This painting was an expression of the freedom we often long for. Painted out of a place of worship it was not only an expression of how I sometimes feel but the lattice refers back to song of songs in the bible and how God watches us and loves us as we delight in Him.

Painted out of a place of worship, it is hard to articulate what I feel the meaning of this painting! Suffice to say, sometimes when you think you are merely dipping your finger in and testing the waters with God, His abundance, goodness and love is already coming to overtake you! Just like the father with his son in the parable of the prodigal son.

The first in my crystal sea series (referring to the crystal sea in heaven described in Revelation), this painting is someone lying under a beautiful waterfall, totally overcome.

Walking with Daddy

At this time I was really pressing in for a greater revelation of God as "abba" (which is Hebrew for daddy). Unlike many of my paintings, this took planning and a number of weeks until it was 'right'. Finally, however, I felt that it expresses how He sees us, our walk, how strongly and gently he leads us by the hand and how we are far from alone. Just us and Daddy, intimate...secure.

With only gold and red on my palette, this painting developed as I worshipped. As many of these pieces, I did not know before, nor during, what I was painting. Preferring instead just to express my worship and enjoy His presence. However, when I stood back, I quickly realised that I had painted where spiritually I felt...waiting, watching, either a new dawn or a sunset...unsure which but utterly transfixed by His glory.

This painting is of the cross which also looks like the boughs of a tree. The flames and gree represent the life that continued as we (our old selves) were put to death and the spirit was readied to raise Christ from the dead...and us with Him.

Taken from a photo of trapeze artists suspended midair it, for me, captures much of how tight God holds onto us when we feel unable. His strength, His ability and His grace is what we need. Many people have seen different things in this painting so allow it to speak to you whatever way it does.

Torch and the Sword

Taken as inspiration form a book by author and speaker Rick Joyner, this abstract depicts the torch and the sword. In the flames are the saints and the angels. It is about the heavenly battle already won, God's triumph and our part in it all.

Again, a painting that I didn't know what I was painting and yet, before I knew it, I realised there were angel figures painted in the flames, hundreds and hundreds of them! I did not intentionally put them there but God immediately reminded me about the angels who sang over the shepherds at Jesus' birth and how much more they rejoiced as though on fire, when Jesus went to the cross...knowing the enemy was beaten.

Isaiah 51

A few weeks before I had been given Isaiah 51 as a scripture reference by someone. I had not remembered it, instead placed it in my bible for a later date and forgotten all about it. I painted this, not knowing really what I was painting, just expressing my worship and playing with the paint. I felt to place a little boy sleeping in the waves and then to write God's very name over them. Either side are His hands holding the waters. As I placed the brush down, I picked up my bible and it fell open at the now bookmarked Isaiah 51. In astonishment I read what I had just painted:

5 For I am the LORD your God,
       who churns up the sea so that its waves roar—
       the LORD Almighty is his name.

 16 I have put my words in your mouth
       and covered you with the shadow of my hand

Intimacy

I was asked to paint a canvas depicting intimacy for a friend of mine. Had the friend been female, it would have been easy, full is the bible of images of romance, brides and beloveds. But the picture was for a man. I realised quickly how distorted every image is that we have of intimacy and I began to pray for an image of pure closeness that expressed how deeply and closely Jesus knows us and cares for us. This is what resulted.

A close up of the hand in crystal sea 2, very quickly this became a favorite stand alone picture. It speaks so beautifully of the peace and serenity of sitting with Jesus, meditating, time in God's presence. A wonderful contrast to the manic lives we so often lead. It is a picture about taking time.

Another painting about intimacy, this one was also during that season where I was exploring the Father nature of God and what it felt like, looks like, smells like. Ah to be like a child in the arms of my daddy God.
